Today we have a bitter sweet little larp about a father-son relationship, The One That Got Away by Jamie MacDonald.
Two men - a father and his adult son - sit in a fishing boat. The only thing they do not talk about is the thing they are burning to talk about. There is also a Spirit/Fish, with whom they can talk about their desire to connect with the other man. This is a slow-paced larp where most players are sitting and talking, but can be emotionally intense. Everyone has a father of some description, and this larp directly taps in to the common fantasy that we can truly "complete" our relationship with our father or our child.
The father and son may be played by players of any age or gender, but they are father and son in character. The third character is a Spirit/Fish, who embodies both the son later in life when he is as old as the father, and the father's father. Players decide in the workshop what the family dynamics have been like, and what the major conflict areas are.
